The felucca ride was a highlight for me. Thanks, Robert, for the idea of going at sunset. This boat, across from us as we docked, seemed to have a lot of people. On ours, we only had Robert, Shirley, the guides, and me. So relaxing (Aswan, Egypt).
The Pyramids and Sphinx were my first sites upon arrival to Egypt. They were incredible.
Giant pyramid, tiny people.
The Sphinx was awesome. I loved its paws (not pictured).
Very bright. Hi, camel.
Since Robert lived in Cairo for a year, he introduced us to several delicious restaurants. This one had sparkly lanterns.
Tasty food at sparkly restuarant.
Wonderful lentil soup from a different restaurant.
Cairo by night.
Pomegranates in Islamic Cairo.
Islamic Cairo.
Robert helping us make some friends with his Arabic skills (Islamic Cairo).
Always, always someone there to volunteer as our tour guide. Many tips to follow (Islamic Cairo).
One of many mosques. They stand out with their signature neon green lights.
The wonderful in-laws who made this trip possible. Thank you for the generosity!
Taking a snack break. The tahini was incredible. We didn’t sample the salad.
One of my many Egyptian buddies. He wouldn’t eat any of the snacks I offered him, though.
Another buddy under my chair. Why won’t you share my meal?!
Robert said they’re not really pancakes.
Ruins near the Step Pyramid.
So I stand in line with the other sheep and squeeze through the tiny hallway, only to see that there were three empty platforms inside. Very interesting treasure.
Guard on camel near the Step Pyramid.
Don’t they look lost? Actually, they’re just trying to find bas reliefs of ritual embrace. Robert is pondering the universe.
Aswan, Egypt.
Everyone serves you Hibiscus as a hospitality beverage. Me thinks it tastes a little like soap or flowers. Robert drank mine.
Robert signing are documents over for the cruise.
Guava.
We took a little boat excursion to the island where the Temple of Isis is. This family dined with us on the larger cruise boat throughout the trip. They were awesome and very friendly. They too got sick like we did.

Back to felucca photos. I loved this little water fun.
Happy Robert.
Happy sky.
Nice boatman.
I was really beginning to feel ill during this excursion. It would be the last trip off the boat for two days for me (Kom Ombo, Egypt).
Large bas relief
View from our cabin. Robert trying to keep hydrated.
Things started okay with our festive New Year dinner.
Then this seafood dish arrived. That’s a baked potato under all that mystery sauce.
This topped our meal. A guava dessert stuffed with cocoa cereal flakes.
Before New Year dinner.
After New Year dinner…recovering.
The sunsets were worth it, though.
this pictures are fantastic! i love them! i love the big sky ones with pondering roberto and the guard… and so many others! the ruins! and the cat! great great.
Love, love, love the pictures. I am so sad you got sick. That is my biggest fear to: getting sick abroad stuck on a boat. So glad you are back.
What a great opportunity to travel in Egypt! It reminds me of our trip to Prague and Slovakia when we had Brigham with us to speak the language. It must have been so fun to have that “in” that regular tourists wouldn’t have. Sorry you got sick. Hope you don’t mind me blog hopping from Kate’s place to spy on you and Robert. The pictures are gorgeous. My goal in life is for my husband to retire and move to VA and be your neighbors!
I am so glad to see some of the marvelous pictures you took. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with you and Robert!
Love,
Mom
looks like you had a better time in Egypt than I did!!
🙂
OMGosh, I am so terribly jealous of your trip and your photos are amazing! i haven’t been anywhere exciting since our trip to Europe. Adam hopes to visit Mongolia/China/Hong Kong sometime in the next year. Wanna come? Miss you!
